Wisdom Japan Patent Attorney Kai Furihata, representing the Japan Patent Attorneys Association (JPAA), was invited to share “Japanese Patent System and Key to Effectively Obtain Patent Rights in Japan” at the 2023 Japan-Taiwan Intellectual Property Seminar co-organized by the Taiwan-Japan Relations Association, the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association and the Taiwan Intellectual Property Office (IPO). The seminar mainly focused on introducing the latest updates of Japan intellectual property protection system, practice of Japanese patent application process for Taiwanese companies, and accompanying measures by the Japan Patent Office (JPO) and the IPO.

Kai’s speech centered on the Japanese invention patent system and points requiring special attention when making use of the Japanese system, especially the differences between the systems and uses of patent in Japan and Taiwan. Furthermore, examples of Japanese companies leveraging their intellectual property to start businesses in Japan were introduced to deepen Taiwanese companies’ understanding of the system and actual practice of Japan invention patents. The speech gave valuable insights that can help companies with patent filing needs in Japan.
